After almost six years since the Avengers broke up following the defeat of Thanos and Tony Stark’s death, the world finds itself in need of its mightiest heroes once again. The MCU’s (Marvel Cinematic Universe) latest film, “Captain America: Brave New World” brings the iconic shield back into action.
In this film, following the election of Thaddeus Ross as the new president of the United States, new Captain America Sam Wilson finds himself in the middle of an international incident and must uncover the motive of a nefarious global plan.
This movie features a star-studded cast, with Anthony Mackie reprising his role as Sam Wilson, Liv Tyler returning as Betty Ross, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns and Harrison Ford stepping into the role of Thaddeus Ross — succeeding the late William Hurt.
Originally titled “Captain America: New World Order,” the film has since been rebranded as “Brave New World” with the tagline “the future favors the brave.”
As the MCU gears up for “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2026 and 2027, the reassembly of the Avengers team was inevitable and had to happen as quickly as possible.
Nate Moore, a veteran Marvel Studios producer, is one of the key figures behind the fourth Captain America film. In an IGN interview, he stated that the best Avengers teams across Marvel Comics history have always had Captain America at their core.
The 2021 Disney+ miniseries “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” followed Steve Rogers handing his shield over to Sam Wilson at the end of “Avengers: Endgame.” In this series, Sam explores the struggles of stepping into a leadership role. “Brave New World” is intended to be a continuation of this series, as the film was announced alongside its finale.
According to The Ringer, this film will also continue storylines from 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk” and 2021’s “Eternals.”
Despite the new Captain America film likely not having the Hulk himself, Bruce Banner’s story and relationships should be kept in mind when going in to see it, as it may connect to the Red Hulk. The introduction of this new Hulk was confirmed in the first trailers, whilst also being Ford’s MCU debut.
Regarding “Eternals,” the MCU has decided to tackle one of its most significant plot holes: Tiamut and the subsequent fate of the Earth. All that is left of the Celestial Tiamut is its frozen hand, which has risen above the surface of the Indian Ocean. Teasers for “Brave New World” have revealed that Tiamut’s corpse is being mined for a new natural resource.
On the film’s release date, its three-minute special look arrived on Disney+. This exclusive short primarily features clipped scenes of Sam in action, close-up shots of the Red Hulk and President Ross giving an important presentation.
