Penn-Trafford boys basketball earns third-straight victory

With the cheerleaders away competing in state finals, the Penn-Trafford boys basketball team decided to make some noise of their own.

The P-T Warriors (11-8, 7-5) earned their third straight win this Friday against McKeesport (7-13, 4-8), in a dominating 62-44 victory. After losing to both Latrobe and McKeesport in the first round of Section 1-5A play,

Penn-Trafford’s head coach Doug Kelly talks with his starters before their game against McKeesport on Jan. 31. P-T won 62-44.

P-T took their revenge this week by beating each team in double digits.

“Our intensity, our energy right now is really good,” said P-T’s head coach Doug Kelly. “Lots of togetherness… I just really love the way our guys are playing offensively and defensively.”

Despite this being the Warriors’ third game in the last four days, they’ve kept their upbeat rhythm going. Brayden Stone and Zach Feldman both led the Warriors with 12 points against McKeesport.

Senior Brayden Stone makes a layup in the third quarter. Stone tied with Zach Feldman for scoring the highest number of points (12) against McKeesport on Jan. 31.

Stone started things off strong for the Warriors. He had a few steals, buried a three and knocked down two free throws, all in the first quarter.

Feldman supported the team in the paint, scoring 10 of his 12 points in the first half.

“I’m giving as much effort for my guys as possible,” Feldman said. “Just trying to be that hustle player they know I can be, fighting and having some fun.

McKeesport narrowly outscored P-T in the final two quarters, but the Tiger’s point deficit from the start was too large to overcome.

“The biggest thing for them is taking away [Lamont] Perkins,” said Kelly. “He had 33 on us last time. He had 12 tonight.”

The Warriors also recovered key players Tyler Boss and Ben Lenart midway through this season after being out for injuries.

“My teammates supported me and

the coaches were always by my side every single day at practice,” said Lenart. “It’s amazing seeing the boys and us all go out there and play as a team and play really good basketball.”

P-T will play next away at Gateway (10-8, 8-4) on Feb. 4. The Gators have also won their last three of four games.
