The highly-anticipated third season of Marvel’s “What If…?” is set to bring the animated anthology series to a conclusion. The season itself will feature a total of eight episodes.
“What If…?” is directed by Bryan Andrews with AC Bradley as head writer. The show features Uatu the Watcher, voiced by Jeffrey Wright, who is an omnipotent being observing multiple universes’ events from a distance, unable to interfere.
According to Screen Rant, fans can look forward to new characters joining the series for Season Three, including White Vision, Monica Rambeau, Red Guardian, Agatha Harkness, Shang-Chi, Moon Knight, Kat e Bishop, Dormammu, Mysterio, Ironheart, Arishem, Byrdie and Storm. Additionally, other Watchers, played by Jason Isaacs, D.C. Douglas and Darin De Paul, will make an appearance — these characters are named “the Eminence,” “the Incarnate” and “the Executioner,” respectively.
Other cast members reprising their roles include Mick Wingert as Tony Stark, Lake Bell as Natasha Romanoff, Josh Keaton as Steve Rogers and Devery Jacobs as Kahhori. Live-action star Hayley Atwell will also be returning for her role as Peggy Carter, most likely as the Captain Carter variant seen in Seasons One and Two.
In the trailers, it is shown that Season Three will feature stories like a road trip with Winter Soldier and Red Guardian, “a 1930s screwball musical,” an Avengers mech battle and a team-up between Shang-Chi and Kate Bishop in a Western setting.
Among rumored episode titles are “What if…Wanda watched musicals instead of sitcoms?” and “What if… Natasha Romanoff survived Vormir?”; the former can be corroborated with the aforementioned “screwball musical.”
Additionally, one fan-favorite theory involves variations on the title, “What if… The Other Half Had Been Snapped?”, referring to the moment in which Thanos snapped his fingers using the completed Infinity Gauntlet in “Avengers: Infinity War.” Many want to know what would have happened had the other half of the universe been killed instead.
The third and final season of “What If…?” is scheduled to premiere on Dec. 22, and each of its episodes will be released daily until Dec. 29.
