British rock band Coldplay released their tenth studio album, “Moon Music (Music of the Spheres: Volume Two).” The album, which was released on Oct. 4, features a total of 10 tracks and highlights a diverse lineup of artists, including Little Simz, Burna Boy, Elyanna, TINI and Ayra Starr.
Moon Music was designed with sustainability in mind, being the first album released on a 140g EcoRecord LP made from nine recycled PET-plastic (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles. This innovation prevents the use of over 25 metric tonnes of new plastic and cuts carbon dioxide emissions by 85 percent in comparison to traditional vinyl.
This follows the revival vinyl has seen in recent years. Once seen as outdated, vinyl sales have skyrocketed, with millions sold each year. Most enthusiasts say that vinyls sound superior to CDs or digital recordings, as well as enjoying the more tactile experience it gives them.
Stores like Walmart and Target have felt the impact of this vinyl resurgence, as seen by the growing selections of records in their music sections. The rise of eco-friendly options, like Moon Music, resonates with many vinyl fans who also care about sustainability.
Additionally, Coldplay has collaborated with The Ocean Cleanup to produce a limited edition titled “The Notebook Edition EcoRecord LP,” which incorporates 70 percent river plastic sourced from the Las Vacas River in Guatemala.
The following songs appear on the album: “MOON MUSIC,” “JUPiTER,” “GOOD FEELiNGS,” “iAAM,” “AETERNA,” “ALL MY LOVE,” “ONE WORLD” and one titled with the rainbow emoji. Additionally, the album includes singles “ifeellikeimfallinginlove” and “WE PRAY,” which were released in June and August, respectively.
