Q&A: P-T hires new English teacher

Several new teachers were hired at Penn-Trafford High School. Taylor Oberdorf joined the staff this year as an English teacher.

Q. What subject do you teach?

A. I teach English 11 and 12.

Q. Do you like it here?

A. I do. So this is actually my third year in the Penn-Trafford School District but my first year in the high school. I taught at Penn Middle my last two years.

Q. How is your first year going here?

A. It’s been interesting, getting to work with older students. Very different for me and getting to know them.

Q. Did you teach at any other school districts before this?

A. Yes, I spent two years teaching in the Hollidaysburg School District where I taught eighth and ninth grade.

Q. What did you do over the summer?

A. I did a lot of hanging out with my family, and I have a puppy, so I spent a lot of time taking care of him with his health issues. I went to some baseball games and sporting events. The rest of my summer, I was preparing for here.

Q. What is your puppy’s name?

A. Geno, he’s a Bernedoodle.

Q: Do you have any other family?

A: I have an older brother and he’s a sports information director at Pitt Greensburg. My sister is a year younger than me and she teaches second grade in Burrell School District.

Q: Did you start teaching during COVID?

A: Yes, it was the first full year we came back. But my first regular year was probably my second year.

Q: Anything else you want to add?

A: I’m just excited to be here. It’s been really cool at the high school and definitely different from Penn Middle.
