Amy Horvat, assistant principal at Penn-Trafford High School, will transfer to Trafford K-8 next year, with more of a focus on Trafford Elementary. She reflected on her experiences and contributions to the high school.
Horvat has worked in the district for 24 years, formerly working as a third grade teacher at Level Green. This is her eighth year working at the high school.
She studied elementary education at Penn State for her undergraduate, got her master’s degree in principal certification at Gannon University, received her reading specialist certification at the University of Pittsburgh and earned her doctorate at Point Park University.
Horvat explained that her involvement with the Unified Coalition is one of the most important things she has done at the high school.
“I feel like there are sometimes students who come into this building and we don’t realize that they don’t feel like they belong here,” she stated. “[They] have so many struggles we don’t know about… You’re not in this profession if you don’t want to help kids.”
