High school hires new history teacher

Joshua Bujakowski, formerly the head of the media center at Penn-Trafford High School, has been hired into a history teacher position; this change follows the retirement of Dan Edgerly.

media management degree. He started at Penn-Trafford High School in 2019 as a substitute teacher and had a full-time position in the media center by 2022.

Before getting his master’s degree and teaching certificate, Bujakowski worked for the Penguins and was also a freelance videographer. Bujakowski said that he has a passion for teaching; he received his master’s in science for social studies education and his teaching certificate from Drexel University.

In addition to being a teacher at P-T, Bujakowski is also a girls’ golf coach, the director of concert percussion ensemble and a team member of P-T’s Student Assistance Program (SAP).

“[Edgerly and I] do have two different teaching styles,” Bujakowski stated, “so I did try and keep a lot of [his] style in Reel to Real, but I did put my own twist on the U.S. History classes.”

For his Reel to Real classes, Bujawskoswi stated that he is thankful that Edgerly created the class, as it combines two of his favorite things: history and movies.

For his U.S. history classes, Bujakowski stated that he got to start with World War Two, which is his favorite topic to teach. “So [teaching that] kind of made the transition pretty easy,” he added. “I love U.S. history, so it’s always been fun for me.”

Bujakowsi said that he would let students use their notes on the first couple of tests; additionally, he will hand out some variation of a study guide before most tests and may host a Kahoot game regarding the material.

“This change is hard for everyone, me included,” Bujakowski stated. “I just want to assure [my students] that I will make it as entertaining and smooth as I can.”
