Admin and Management classes sell apparel lines for charity

The intro to Admin and Management classes recently launched their annual t-shirt sales for a local charity. The four-month-long process has afforded students the opportunity to develop their own businesses, but with the intent to aid the community.

Every year the benefiting charities alternate; this year proceeds will be donated to The Heyward House, a foundation founded by Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward. The foundation’s objective is to aid adolescents with an array of issues from childhood hunger to cancer.

Admin and Management teacher Kim Stefkovich said, “This is our 17th year and we’re off to a good start, because we’ve had the most sponsors we’ve had in a long time.” The sponsors have donated a total of approximately $8,000, a sum which has helped the class in expanding an online store and shipping capabilities.

Beginning in December and lasting through the majority of March, students are required to not only explore various designs for logos and unique company names, but utilize their knowledge of business to formulate sales strategies and goals.

A notable step in the process is the recording and publishing of a commercial, entirely coordinated by each class.

STUDENTS IN the admin and management classes run their own companies.

“One period went down and filmed their commercial at [Acrisure Stadium],” said Stefkovich. Penn-Trafford students are able to view the finished product on the daily program Wake Up Warriors.   According to one sales organizer Carson Good, class cooperation and teamwork are two of the highlights of the project.

“I’ve gotten close with a lot of the guys in [the class] because of this project,” Good said. Yet periods five and six of the Admin and Management class are in competition to raise the most money off of their own apparel line, each with a unique design.

The sales, according to Stefkovich, enable students to “put the information they learned in the first half [of the class] into motion in the second half.”

This practical application has encouraged students to invest their attention in lectures on leadership qualities and employee skills, as they can use strategies taught in class to further their own line. For Good, the project is a “huge eye opener for me in regards to the world of business…This class has shown me what it takes to be a good leader and a successful business person.”

To any student interested in purchasing a product, options have expanded to include: short-sleeve t-shirts, long-sleeve t-shirts, crewnecks and hoodies. Prices range from $13 for short-sleeves up to $29 for a hoodie; sales last from March 1-22.
