Creative Writing Roundtable meets for open mic night

The Creative Writing Roundtable group held its open mic night on Dec. 16 at the Sweet Buzz Bean and Bistro in Harrison City.

Christina Wukich, the Creative Writing Roundtable advisor, said that at the open mic night, student authors share different pieces of writing, and the students can invite friends and family. Some writings are being used as entries for the Scholastic Book Award.

Kathryn Grant, a sophomore Roundtable participant, added, “People outside of [Creative Writing] Roundtable can come as well.”

According to sophomore Marissa Fong, the event usually takes place in a restaurant, so students can enjoy food and drink while at the event.

Prior to the event, Creative Writing Roundtable students shared what they are most looking forward to at the open mic night.

“I am most looking forward to showing more people that doing Creative Writing Roundtable is really fun and allows us to express our emotions through writing,” Fong added.

“What I’m most looking forward to is seeing how people perform each piece,” sophomore Grace Malley said. “The emotion they put into their own piece and the inflection of their words. I enjoy the spin everybody puts on their own writings.”

Senior Kate Malley stated that poetry and short stories are some examples of writings that can be shared at this event. She added,  “I am excited to hear everyone’s Scholastic pieces… It gives them a chance to receive Scholastic Book Awards.”

Grant stated that the Creative Writing Roundtable group is super supportive and really good at giving criticism and that it’s a very nice group. She added, “I’m looking forward to seeing what my friends write because I want to see their talent be appreciated – they’re all super talented.”
