The Penn-Trafford football team won the program’s first WPIAL title in the class 5A Championship.
The Warriors defeated Moon, 24-21, making history for P-T football on the school’s 50th anniversary.
Both teams fought hard for the title on a snowy Saturday, Nov. 27 evening at Heinz Field. It was a close game with Moon in the lead by half time with a score of 21-17. However, the Warriors came on top.
Senior kicker Nathan Schlessinger added the first three points for P-T on a field goal. Then senior running back Cade Yacamelli scored a 53 yard touchdown, and caught a 92 yard pass to add another touchdown for the Warriors.
Senior quarterback, Carter Green scored the last touchdown on a 29-yard run.
The Warrior defense had a great second half shutting down the Tigers. Junior Daniel Tarabrella contributed with 17.5 tackles.
“The Penn-Trafford program, coaches, and community have been deserving of a WPIAL championship for a long time so it feels really good to finally achieve that.” said Green. “The atmosphere of the stadium, the huge crowd, the snow, and the win is something that I will never forget.”
Yacamelli added how it is the dream for them to be the ones to make school history.
The team took on Exeter Township for the semifinal and won 49-14. This means the Warriors are headed to Hersheypark stadium for the championship game Dec.10. The Warriors will face Imhotep Charter, at 7 p.m.
History was certainly made for Penn-Trafford, and the community could not be more united or proud to be a Warrior.
