As one of the largest clubs at Penn-Trafford, The Community Action Program continues to lend a helping hand within the community.
Lisa Popovich, the P-T school nurse and Community Action Program sponsor, mentioned how important it is for students to participate in community service.
¨In our school we are blessed in so many ways and for students to learn how to give back to the community at a young age is so beneficial for their future,¨ said Popovich.
There are many events that CAP members participate in throughout the year.
You’ve Got A Friend Day, Jeannette Food Pantry, Harrison Park and McCullough Elementary PTO meetings, Veterans Drive, Toys for Tots, Trunk or Treat, Ushering for the fall play and even more are all events that Cap members can participate in.
The Community Action Program president, senior Maura Suman, expressed how her favorite events are the Jeannette Food Pantry and You’ve Got A Friend Day.
¨Both events are two eye-opening trips that add value to everyday things. You see the impact that you are making on the lives of others, and it is an amazing project to be a part of,¨ said Suman.
Popovich suggested how community action opens our eyes to how things are going on in the community, and how we can help so many people.
All students need service hours as a graduation requirement and CAP is the perfect chance to get hours, added Popovich and Suman.
It is never too late to join the Community Action Program. Students can go to pthscap.com and sign up any time throughout the year. The club does have a $10 registration fee to go towards all different functions and donations. However, if any student has a problem with the fee it will be waived.
