Upcoming graduates should all be proud of their accomplishments. This being said, it draws increasingly important to highlight the work of those who have truly excelled.
A prime example came in the form of senior Mike Mervosh. He is regarded by peers and faculty alike as a well-balanced, kind young man.
Ranking at No. 2 in the class of 2021, it can be assumed that Mervosh excels in the classroom, a feat that many desire. His advice to those looking to achieve academic excellence: “Learning information, rather than caring about the grade will pay incredible dividends in the end.”
While wisdom is not hard for him to come by, Mervosh did note a rather simple concept to attribute his consistent high school career: time management.
Mervosh added that time management made his workload much more desirable. His discipline in study hall allowed him to finish his work by 4:30 p.m. most nights.
Discipline, time management, and priorities have contributed to Mervosh’s success in the classroom, but school does not define him as a person.
He is well-known as a funny, charismatic friend throughout the school. Mervosh said he spends his free time golfing, reading and fishing.
The balance is equally important as the dedication when it came to enjoying a fulfilling high school career.
A measure of how impactful time has been spent is often one’s impact on others.
Some of Mervosh’s teachers added their thoughts on him as a student and person. History teacher John Carlisle described Mervosh as an “extremely hard working and intrinsically motivated student who never gives anything less than his best day in and day out.”
Mervosh drew more praise from Spanish teacher Desiree Alba when she commented on him as a person rather than a student: “He would always entertain me with deep and meaningful conversation about anything Marvel! I absolutely couldn’t wait to discuss the newest movie, theory, conspiracy, etc. with him!”
Mervosh has certainly not had an easy path to his success, however.
In December 2019, Mervosh and his family lost his mother, Dorothy. He said she was a kind, impactful human being who brightened the day of all she encountered.
He said the loss had taken a toll on him, and could have created understandable reasoning for a drop off in his performance all around.
In the face of adversity, Mervosh continued to persevere and put his best foot forward. It was not easy, but it was a path that continued to make his family proud.
Tremendous success, determination, and perseverance truly tell the story of Michael William Patrick Mervosh. Such is the highs and lows of any journey.
