As the bizarre year continues, Penn- Trafford High School strives for normalcy. Recently, the school has allowed seniors to return to full-time learning in person. After this significant change, The Warrior asked a number of the seniors how their transition is going.
¨I like it so much better than hybrid and online. It almost gives you the sense of normalcy being back full time. Walking in the hallways seeing people with a last name in the first half of the alphabet that you haven’t seen since March 13th, 2020 is just crazy. I love being back and being social again with all my classmates. I feel like I am learning so much more than I was on hybrid, and it gives me a reason to get up and get moving on the day¨
– Sarah Winchell (Senior)
¨The biggest adjustment was definitely getting used to the amount of people in my class. I was used to coming to school and being in class with four maybe five other people and now that we are back there’s over 30 in some classes so it was a big change. I like it a lot better in person because a lot of my friends were in green group, so now I get to see them everyday before I graduate”
– Julia Moorhead (Senior)
¨It is definitely something that is going to take getting used to again, but I love seeing my friends that I didn’t see before. It’s like the little taste of normalcy which is awesome. The biggest adjustment for me is obviously being there so often. I got acclimated to being at home half of the week, which is totally different from coming every day.¨
– Brooke Banda (Senior)
¨I would say the biggest adjustment for me would be having to wake up and get ready everyday, and staying ahead of schedule on homework because going to school compared to online takes a lot out of you.¨
-Benjamin Johnson (Senior)
¨Being in person full time has definitely improved my learning. After all, it’s what I did for 10 and a half years of school, and moving to an online/hybrid schedule was not easy. I find it easier to learn when I am in a classroom, as there are little-to-no distractions. However, we had been doing hybrid/online for the better part of the last year, so a part of me was getting used to it. So now it’s a weird situation where I have to get back used to what I had done for almost eleven years: being in person.¨
-Joseph Pacelli (Senior)
¨It has allowed me to learn much more efficiently and I feel like I know what I am doing in class now at all times. I 100 percent prefer to be full-time over hybrid and online. I missed seeing everyone and as seniors, we do not have much time left with our peers. It is amazing and I am extremely grateful to the district for giving us this opportunity. We are all much happier and my fellow seniors agree when I say we are learning much better.¨
-Griffin Nelson (Senior)
It is clear that the majority of the senior students think returning full time has been a positive change. Many agree that it has helped them feel more normal, while also making school work much easier. Understandably the students are happy with this change, and now the juniors and other underclassmen will watch and wait to see if they have the opportunity, as well.
