Signing day brings new opportunities

The Penn-Trafford athletic department had a signing day for some of fall and winter sport athletes February 6. The signing allowed students to bring in their friends and family as they signed their contract to their college of choice to further their athletic and academic careers.

Students such as Natalie Norman have been “waiting for this moment for a long time.” Norman, who signed to Mercyhurst college for Field Hockey says that she first found out playing college sports was a possibility at her state championship game. “They sent scouts to come watch me play and the realization that people wanted me to play for their school was exciting” Norman explained.

Of course having students go to school for athletics is nothing new for the school district. Students such as John Gay went to Air Force for Football along with fellow team mate Cameron Elma who went to Tiffin University.

Following in their athletic footsteps students Niko Rosso and Dimitri George have both now signed to John Carroll University for Football.

The two have been playing football with each other for 14 years. “I don’t know how it turned out that we ended up going to the same college to play more football together, but it sure is a great bonus.” Rosso explained about going to school with George. “Above all I would like to thank my mom, dad, friends, and coaches.”

Along with the Field Hockey and Football submissions, bowling, had a signing. Mike Barvinchak signed to officially join the Robert Morris University bowling team next year. Barvinchak has been bowling for as long as he can remember. “Along with being the captain and having the anchor position on the school team. I also bowl on many travel teams throughout the area. I travel as far to swissvale every other day to practice the sport I love.”

The Warrior would personally like to congratulate all the athletic signers: Natalie Norman and Kaylie Melnick for Field Hockey. Niko Rosso, Dimitri George, and Keaton Heir for football. Gina Sarnelli for Soccer, and Michael Barvenchack for bowling.
