Field hockey home game ends on memorable note

Senior night is one of the most memorable occasions for student athletes, signifying an end to a legacy for seniors and a showing of what comes next for the underclassmen soon to move up. The Warrior field hockey game on October 16 was no different.

With wet  weather conditions, it looked like the senior night everyone was hoping for might have been a bust at Warrior Stadium. However, people came prepared and senior ceremonies went on as scheduled.

With a varisity team mostly compromised of seniors, the fieldhockey team will be losing a lot of players next year. The seniors include Mikayla Bischell, Alaina Goldberg, Danielle Ochendowski, Natalie Norman, Lauren Kelly, Madison Trainor, Natalie Wilson, Makenzie  Cima, Lexi Bodnar, Falon Murray and Kalylie Melnick.

The game started strong with open communication by all mid-field players, most notably captain Lauren Kelly who held up a strong defense. The communication began to lack as  the team let in a goal just seven minutes into the game.

The second half of the game went much more smoothly for the Lady Warriors, as they prevented  any more scores from occuring.

They quickly recovered, however, and were able to hold off any goals until the very last couple minutes of the game.

The game ended with Pine Richland winning, 2-0.     After the game head coach Cindy Dutt felt that the girls were “right with them” the whole time, and that the game was “very winnable.”

In regards to this being the girls’ final home game of the season, senior Natlaie Wilson said there is nothing quite like field hockey.

“I am so happy to have had this experience. I really got to feel like I was a part of something,” Wilson said.

The Lady Warrior Field Hockey team had   their last away game of the season at Norwin Oct. 17 and will compete in the WPIAL championship soon after.
