The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in the WCCA County Meet hosted by Westmoreland County Community College on Oct. 11, and earned a top 15 finish on boys’ team.
The teams competed against a variety of other squads in the area. The boys’ varsity team placed sixth out of 12 teams with a score of 181, and the girls’ varsity team placed seventh out of 11 teams with a score of 157.
For the boys’ team, sophomore runner Patrick Driscoll finished 10th out of 81 runners in a time of 18:02.8, earning himself a medal in the top 15.
Boys’ team coach Paul Conrad added that they would have had a top 15 finisher on the girls’ team in freshman Chloe Bonson, but she dropped out as to prevent the worsening of an existing injury.
Conrad and the girls’ team coach Patty Arzenti said that the muddy condition of the course due to recent rainy weather created a challenge for the team to overcome, but that they all ran well despite it.
“I think everybody gave a good effort. The conditions weren’t great,” Conrad said. “We had a lot of kids that ran their best times today, and considering that it was a very muddy course, that’s pretty impressive.”
