iPhone 8 has controversial upgrades

The cell phone world is about to be turned upside down as Apple  released their next installment in the Iphone series–the iPhone 8–  which was released to consumers  on Sep. 22.

The iPhone 8 is marketed at a starting price of $699, and the iPhone 8 plus is $799. It is the most expensive Iphone to come out yet, until Apple releases planned iPhone X  to be on the shelves Nov. 3 priced at. $1,000.

However, even with two phones coming out this year in the iPhone cycle, sales do not seem to be slowing down in the slightest.  The iPhone 8´s presales are selling out as the company is struggling to produce enough units to its consumers. Units such as the the space gray Iphone sold out almost instantly and pushed back production until early Oct..

Specs on the iPhone 8 have been slightly controversial especially with size. The actual dimensions for the iPhone 8 are 5.45 x 2.65 x 0.29 in while the iPhone 7 is at a slight difference being smaller with its dimensions at  5.44 x 2.64 x 0.28 in. Although this change in dimension would be almost unnoticeable to the daily consumer, many will definitely be able to feel the difference in weight as the Iphone 8 weighs in at 5.22 0z while the Iphone 7 is at 4.87 0z,  7 percent increase from the former generation.

While the slight increase in weight isn’t a real difference maker for the average consumer, durability certainly will be. Another change to the iPhone is that they have done away with the aluminum backing to the phone to go for a a double glass feature on both sides. This adds a new element of fear for consumers, especially those who prefer the style choice that comes with wearing no case. This now allows the phone to be cracked from any side no matter how it is dropped.

However in the technical department the 8 did take a large jump compared to the 7. Storage on the 8 has doubled from its previous generation going from 32 Gigabytes to its current state of 64 Gigabytes. The speed was also enhanced going from an A10 fusion chip to the enhanced A11 Bionic Chip.

Nick Gensamer, a sophomore, at Penn-Trafford recently made the upgrade from the 7 to the 8“ I feel like it’s just more of the same, if you liked the 7 you will like the 8 for the same reason just with small technical spec upgrades”, Gensmaer said

Even with the new upgrades, people are still questions as why they did not add back in the aux jack in the bottom of the phone. People were extremely indifferent upon the release of the 7, due to the fact that students would not be able to plug in their Earphone Jacks to their usual port.

Apple responded to the criticism by making it possible for you to plug your earphones into the same port that is used for charging.

For now Apple will enjoy its new generation of phones flocking into the world, as they still have a trick up their sleeve with the iPhone X set to come out later this November.
