Tutoring program helps struggling students

Math comes easily to some students in Penn-Trafford High School, however, this is not the case for every student. That is why the math department at P-T decided to provide a tutoring program in the media center during each study hall.

Students seek tutoring in order to help understand the information learned in class that they might not have understood. Senior Kiah Frichtel goes to the tutor in her study hall when she is struggling, “I come to tutoring after class if I don’t understand what is going on or if I go home and get confused with homework.”

Math teachers decided to make a tutoring program during each period in the media center. The teachers then picked students who have notoriously good at math. Senior Joel Fritzius was picked because of his grades in math, “My name was signed up because I’m good at math and science.”

Because tutoring is offered every period in the media center, tutors are readily available. “I tutor every 4th and 8th period,” Fritzius said, “each tutoring session lasts for about 30 minutes.”

Students have been taking advantage of the easy access of the tutors. “I come twice a week for help with intro to calc,” Frichtel said.
Teachers have been advising students who have been struggling in class to seek help from the tutors. “Mr. Schall told me to go down to the tutor if I was having any trouble,” Frichtel said, “I come to tutoring aso my grade doesn’t drop and so I understand the information for the rest of the year.”

Tutoring has proven to be successful for some students. “My grades have definitely improved since I starting coming to tutoring,” Frichtel said.
