Internet trends like the mannequin challenge are always popping up, and Penn-Trafford High School found a way to have fun with the newest one.
P-T Video made its own mannequin challenge on Thursday, Nov. 17 with the help of the entire high school. During third period, the camera made its way through the halls of PTHS.
Video teacher Steve Vinton said, “I thought it would be a fun and challenging experience for my students.”
Vinton’s entire Film I class helped.
“Dan Rauso really took the lead and planned the majority of the camera route and coordinated the efforts. Jake Schick ran the camera. The rest of the class ran ahead and told people that the camera was on its way,” Vinton said.
“This allowed us to freeze time as a wave through the school rather than having the entire school freeze for 15 minutes.”
Over 600 people were involved, and 20 different locations were filmed.
According to slangit.com, the mannequin challenge is a viral internet trend where people freeze in scenes, like mannequins, while a video is recorded with a song in the background.
The biggest challenge they faced, according to Vinton, was organizing the event.
“The overall scope was massive,” Vinton said. “We had to map out a path through the school that eliminated long walks down hallways. We wish we could have used the new fitness center and pool, but they were too far.”
The video was posted on Youtube, where it has reached over 12,800 views.
“It went better than I could have imagined,” said Vinton. “It was overwhelmingly positive. It involved a lot of students, faculty and staff, and people had fun. My students got a taste of planning a massive shoot and really got to see how much planning goes into an event like this.”
The mannequin challenge was a way for students and teachers alike to have fun and be creative while participating in a viral internet trend, as well as acting as an educational experience for Film I of the video department.
